ANNUAL
REPORT 2009-10: GURUSHARAN EDUCATION TRUST
1. INTRODUCTION
The
Trust has its origin for Educational Development and in persuasion of the same;
the populace targeted were the downtrodden, orphans and Martyr’s kids. A need
was felt for quality education for such kids who has a number of policies and
guidelines listed for them for their upliftment but
the general awareness is always lacking. Being the player of the back stage
they are more than hesitant to come forward to collect their support which is
also their right. In such field it is also observed that these students/kids
are also trapped in wrong hands. A trend is also seen that despite various
efforts such categories of students do not shy away and come forward but has a
strong negativity against a policy. An attempt is always made towards moulding their thoughts; but instead of running and
convincing such students regularly the positive personalities amongst them are welcomed
by the Trust and they are shown the path of excellence.
In
doing so a group of such categories of students are formed only on the basis of
their competency level. Counseling, guidance and proper mentoring is tried to
be provided not only academically but also in various extra- curricular
activities. They are exposed to the present day education pattern and with the
help of computer aided courses and classes and are kept paced up with the help
of online internet facility only for their educational needs.
A
word regarding the orphans and the martyr’s kids; despite the large existing
policies and financial assistance their rights are directly controlled by the
big bosses in their families as their mothers are mostly illiterate or the
orphanage claims for their education only till certain time. The Trust apart
from motivating and bringing them forward also provides a stick of proper
guidance which can become the ladder of their success/educational excellence.
The Trust reaches out to places and targets specific location under its scope
to be developed.
There
is still lot to learn in the process of making them learn.

The Trust extended its attempt if finding a better
alternative for the educational purpose and started organizing the facilities
under one roof in the best suited area. The attempt also got extended from RANCHI
to CHAS (the places are located in Jharkhand) and by the end of 3rd
quarter the Trust established a facilitation center and adopted a school with
its health assistance facility in CHAS. Thus an attempt was made to control at
least two specific locations where the facility could easily be controlled.

2.5
Key Activities
Dhyey Classes
A professional library was
opened in the office premises of Gurusharan Education Trust and the project was
named as DHYEY which means ‘AIM’ of the students in understanding, learning and
achieving their objectives as per their capability and liking. For this, only
specific students were selected on the basis of their competencies and
requirements. They were supposed to clear an entrance test to understand their
take off level. The membership had no cost but a promise by them to perform and
keep performing
To assist the students a
healthy library of specifically Science & IT subject was prepared. It was
also aided with a number of CBT (Computer based training) packages ranging from
classroom subjects and competitions to personality development were made
available. All the systems were connected on LAN with a master computer having
the back up of a hard disk full of encyclopedia. The end user computers were
the low cost Intel Pentium desktops having 24 hrs internet connectivity
facilitated in the premises for online exams and classes.
To assist the students in
better understanding of the subjects various subject experts and even
engineering graduates were hired in the required time and classes for
clarification of the doubt and also conducting the various mock tests.
For the purpose of the DHYEY
classes the office at Ganpati Apartment at Dumardaga having 3BHK residential configuration was used
having 1360 sqft of space. The phone and the net
connection of BSNL was taken connected to 05 Intel Dot Station 01 laptop and 01
desktop with a library of almost 500 books with 02 counseling and 01 net and 01 reading room.
All the students in 05 km of
radius were contacted and membership test were conducted in their premises only.
Also these tests were regularly conducted at the centre for other/ left out
students. Out of 300 (approx) students only 80 students were extended the
membership based on their performance and requirement. The event was duly
advertised in local news papers and publicized by proper means.
Apart from this a regular
career counseling support in a daily newspaper ‘Hindustan’ was provided by the
experts from the Trust every Sunday.
The facility in the Dhyey classes were mostly utilized by the kids of Armed Forces
personnel but later many civil background students were also given admission in
the project who were needy and desirous and importantly 05 kids from near
around Dhabas
and Paan Shops were also admitted to support
them for their secondary school examinations. The facility was used by 80+
students on regular basis and many students used the library and internet
facility without the membership (membership was only exam based and no money
was ever collected for the membership).
A career guidance program
under the same project was later initiated for the students desirous of joining
the Armed Forces/SSB Interview. Most of such students were NCC-‘C’ certificate
holders, for them a proper introductory and preparatory class were conducted as
a part of soft skill and personality development class.
The regular tutorial classes
were conducted for Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies,
Commerce and Economics but at times the concept was misunderstood by many as a
normal coaching class running for profit, it was also found that most of the
students have more inclination for joining brand names and our attempt was
growing as their competitor, the students from relatively better financial
background were found misusing the facilities many times, so the need was felt
for membership restriction and some serious amendments in the policies even
regarding the location.
Manthan
This is another project
directed for extra- curricular activities of the students. This includes the
activities at Ranchi as well as Chas- 3DD School. The basic idea is to conceptualize
SARVANGEEN VIKAS or overall growth of all students by exposing them to all
kinds of stage/sports related activities thereby exposing them to the forefront
of the society. This will improve their personality and make them a confident
human being.
On 15 Aug 2009 an open Quiz
competition at Ranchi was organized whereas a general school function at Chas
was held.
5 Sep 2009 at Chas was
celebrated by various stage shows and honouring many
of the teachers and motivating the environment to do better always.
On 2nd Oct 2009 Mahatma
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by organizing a sketch
competition at Chas and a 3 day event at Ranchi- events like poems & essay
competition, group discussion and painting and quiz competition for various
categories of students were organised.
14 Nov Children’s Day was
celebrated only at Chas.
3DD School & Hahnemann Homeo House-Chas
3DD School Chas is a primary
school running in the inner areas of Chas and are facilitating the primary
education to the needy students on the CBSE pattern for last more than 20 years
and are preparing the students to get into any quality school and providing all
kinds of support to the financially weaker section or the marginalized section
of the society. With the support of the Secretary of the Trust who has been
running the School in the past providing medical and health support to all the
locals and rural not only educationally but also through a homeopathic health centre “Hahnemann Homeo House”
where he has been organizing the health check- ups and medicals aided camps at
different locations. Both these institutions were formally accepted and adopted
by the Trust with a motive of expanding its objective through these centers.
Apart from carrying out
normal classes on the quality parameters and medical camps the School has been
supporting and helping the downtrodden students by exposing them to video
classes and other aided materials to understand the subject better. The general
count of the students vary from 150-200 from class 1st to 5th
primarily but also assistance for middle and secondary level education is
provided to them. Similarly the Homeo house provides
support to all needy and mostly the help is provided on need basis only, also
special subjects like adolescence psychology is addressed to both the students
and the parents in need.
3.
Quarterly summary
3.1
Quarter 1 (April 2009 – June 2009)
The preparation for the Dhyey classes were continuing, the library was being set with
complete set of non course subject/reference books and all kinds of question
bank books for Engineering, Medical and NDA entrance test books were purchased.
Necessary electric equipment like CFL, Tube light and fans were procured. 05
Intel Dot Stations (P3 Processor) computer were purchased to set up the E- library/café.
The BSNL landline with unlimited broad band connection was taken. The required furnitures were made with the existing facilities and rest of them were purchased according to the requirement to
set up the centre. On 5th of April the first entrance test was held
at the center and on 6th it was held at the APS Dipatoli
and by now almost 110 students have appeared in the test and amongst them only
32 were given the initial membership to the project. KV Dipatoli
and Surendernath School were approached for the
tests. During these events the Project was inaugurated by Mrs
Anjali Mahajan, President AWWA (Army Wives Welfare
Association) 23 Infantry Division; Col Aich SO AWWA
23 Inf Div
and Col Anand Bhushan,
Group Commander NCC BN at Ranchi were the main guests.
The concept was briefed to
everybody and a request by made to them for all possible support. On 20th
April the entrance test was conducted at KV Dipatoli
and the tests continued to be conducted at the center. However in the last week
the effort expanded from a professional library to tutorial/counseling classes
by the arrival of the first volunteer Mr Shesh Narayan Dube to support the
concept- who was a youngster, fresh pass out Mechanical engineer from a reputed
Engineering College, he was a good mentor and a counselor for his subjects. He
started the Math tutorials for Engineering subjects
and also started taking classes for various students who belonged to a very
marginalized class preparing them for their board examination on his own
initiative and interest. By first 1st week of May all the Science subject
classes were covered and even the expertise of the then Project head Mr Sujay Sarkar
was used for the Biology subject tutorials.
In between our Treasurer Lt.
Dr Subodh Kumar Sarkar fell badly ill and his support and activity stopped
for the project’s promotion. However few more volunteers kept coming forward
and supported us in whatever means they could. With their support and help the
counseling and tutorial classes continued.
In May a master computer was
provided by Mr Prabhat
Kumar who also launched our website: www.gurusharaneducation.org, the master computer had a data bank of all the CBT packages subject
and class wise which was put on LAN through cable and WIFI enabling the
students to access the info bank fulfilling their requirement of doubt
clarification on that subject/topic.
All Sundays were kept busy
by organizing mock test to adjudge the students performance and their
requirement of extra classes and counseling accordingly.
In June the decision was
taken to start the same project for the 10th pass students forming a
batch for the Dhyey 2012 classes. For such students
the entrance/membership tests started at the centre and also at many schools
like APS Dipatoli, KV Dipatoli,
Loyola Public School and RTC School.
On 26th of May
the trust extended its first other centre at Chas Bokaro adopting the 3DD School and Hahnemann Homeo House which was inaugurated by the Ex principal of KB
College Bokaro Mr P K
Sinha. One of the Dot stations was handed over to the school as a part of their
IT class support for the primary kids.
In between a series of books
were also procured on the demand of the students, some books were donated by
the 3DD School Library, making the Dhyey Library
stronger in quantity and quality. Previously there was no policy of issuing
books to the students but now we could start the running of the Dhyey library as any other professional library and started
issuing the books to the individuals.
In between the Chairman Maj M K Sinha (retd) was called upon by Hindustan Newspaper for weekly
career counseling on every Sunday for the Armed Forces career. Thus a regular
counseling support to the general students was also extended with such
arrangement, also such counseling support was provided to a local channel PBL Nazar.
3.2
Quarter 2 (July 2009 – Sep 2009)
The July month started with
the preparation for the arrangement of the Dhyey 2011
and 2012 appearing students. The evening classes started on full go with 50 +
students taking classes in different batches and the counts of students seeking
admission and getting into the classes increased regularly. Now some students
joined whose parents started paying some remuneration to us as monthly fees but
it was accepted only those who wished to pay voluntarily and were able to pay,
so a fee structure for the newly introduced batch was also introduced with a
very subsidized rates and the aim was to collect students thriving for
excellence, the monetary support to run the project for the remuneration of the
volunteers and managing various facilities was provided by the Chairman and Maj Purnima Kumari.
Now a good standard of the
faculty of all science subjects and one faculty for the entire commerce subject
was available to run the project in arranged batches for all the students. The
main emphasis was just preparing the students for their career/academic
ambition and all the preparation was just to facilitate them for the same. The regular
activities continued like the career counseling in Hindustan and the mock test which
evaluated the students for their preparation and thus deciding our plan of
action.
During this period the 15th
Aug 2009 or the Independence celebration was done by organizing an open school
quiz competition in which a number of students participated from various
schools. Similarly a number of events were organized at the 3DD School including
flag hoisting and a health camp for all the rural kids.
5th Sep 2009, the
teacher’s day observed a few students coming and presenting pens to the
teaching faculty at Ranchi. At Chas it was a function to felicitate the best
performing teachers and various events were organized on this day by the
students.
In the 1st week
of September the SSB classes were started for the students aspiring to join the
Armed Forces. The aspirants were mostly the NCC ‘C’ certificate holders and had
attempted the interview several times but could not clear the same. So to
enhance them in civil streets the lesson was converted more for their
personality and soft skill development classes, for them a small batch of 10
students were formed. By this time amongst those aspirants only one of the
students became a volunteer and started extending her full time support and
later took on the charges as the first contact person of the Trust for this
project as a receptionist.
In the last week of Sep the Chairman
was invited for an all India meet of NGOs at Gulbarga organized by Bharat Vikas Sangam. The Chairman and Mr Prabhat Kumar attended the
same and learnt the nuances to grow an NGO. They also represented our efforts
at Ranchi and Chas. Though no formal financial support was provided by any of
the present organization but the newer avenues and perspectives were learnt in
the 3 day meet where NGO representatives from all the states concentrated under
one room and tried to learn by each other’s examples.
During the closure of the
quarter the Trust had also applied for Lease of some non running school
buildings to establish its own school but the efforts went fruitless but it
ensured the development of the Chas centre in a close look which was more than
satisfactory and was performing up to the higher expectations.
3.3
Quarter 3 (October 2009 – December 2009)
The quarter started with the
event of celebration of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. At
Ranchi it was started as a 3 day event; since the routine becomes heavily
academic and monotonous, so to break that definition of education only with
academics the Trust organized some extracurricular activities and other events
as per its capability under the project Manthan.
(a) Pre 2nd October with an aim to start the Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday celebration a
circular was distributed to all the nearby schools for the kids belonging to
age group 10 – 20 years. It was meant to deposit an 800 – 1000 words essay and
a poem contest on the subjects: Bapu as a Guru, Global
Warming and Education. A very general response was seen as hardly 15 essays and
11 poems could be collected.
But certainly the standard of the articles deposited
was good and even the other presentations in poems and essays were of descent
standard. The best essay was of Sk Aminoor Rahmaan, class X, Loyola Public
School on ‘Bapu as a Guru’ and second best essay was
of Atul, Class IX, Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali on ‘Global Warming’.
In poem section the best poem was of Rinky Kumari, Class XII, Army
Public School, Dipatoli Cantt,
“Woh Amar Saya” and second best poem was of Vipul Anant, Class VIII, DAV
Public School, Ashok Nagar, “Raho na
raho tum mahka karoge”.
In the evening a guest
lecture by Shri Nand
Kishore Murlidhar, journalist Hindustan (also
associated with many other news channels) for the students career counseling
took a guest lecture and explained the importance of Gandhian
values to achieve perfection in achievement of their career goals, to succeed
in life by self discipline and motivation than just concentrating on career and
academics.
A quiz contest on Mahatma Gandhi was organized wherein 26 students
participated of the mentioned age group. The quiz comprised of the events and
facts related to Mahatma Gandhi. The quiz contest had 4 rounds after 1st
round best 8 were selected, after 2nd round best 4 and so on; it had
a total of 51 questions on Mahatma Gandhi. Finally Aatish,
Class XII, APS Dipatoli was the winner whereas Rashmi Sinha, Class VIII, KV Dipatoli was the runners up.
(c) 3rd October a painting / sketching contest was organized on the themes:
- ‘Bapu in my view’, ‘Global Peace’ and ‘Me & My World’. 20 students participated in the event
and came out with their own ideas. Ravinder Kumar,
Class XII, APS Dipatoli was 1st and Priyanka Singh, KV Dipatoli was 2nd,
also 4 consolation prizes were distributed to Farid,
Class XII, KV Dipatoli, Sweta
Sinha, Class IX, KV Dipatoli,
Priya D Mali, Class XII, APS Dipatoli
and Papraja, Class III, DAV Bariyatu.
(d) 4th October the closing day was marked by heavy response from the
parents and the prize winners along with many volunteers who helped us set up
the place to mark the closing ceremony. The event started with a guest lecture
by Mr Sajal Chakraborty on the topic “Gandhi- Aaj
ke paripekshya mein” who briefed the audience with his dexterity for 45
minutes. He talked only of Mahatma Gandhi and briefed as to how Mr Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi got
transformed into Mahatma.
The root values and thoughts of Bapu were reemphasized Mr Manmohan Prasad Sinha the 1st
generation of Gurusharan and an eminent educationalist in Jharkhand and Bihar.
The complete event was then
debriefed by Major Mitesh Kumar Sinha
(retd) and pledge was made that the organization will
continue the hard work and helps promote the education to the needy ones to an
extent and quality of the best standard. He briefed the overall objectives of
the organization and thanked the guests, students and volunteers.
The prizes were distributed
to the winners and selected sketches were put up on exhibition to the guests.
In the 3 days a total of 54
students participated from most of the schools of Ranchi. The thought itself
was so pious that in spite of having a competition a general socializing
atmosphere was seen where all students interacted with each other, tried to
know about their school’s culture and were able to make new friends at the end
of the event.
Chas, Bokaro 3DD School celebrated 2nd
October as Mahatma Gandhi’s and Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri’s
Birthday. The event had the presence and support of Dr
Jagpati Prasad, Secretary, Gurusharan Education Trust.
The day was celebrated with the chief guest Mr AK Sinha, ex Principal KB
college, Chas,Bokaro who
offered his tributes by placing mala and lighting a diya
on the photographs of Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri.
The event started with a group song by everybody ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’. Then
the Principal Mrs Usha Sinha briefed the students on Mahatma Gandhi and his
struggle to make us live in a free and democratic country. Next an act was
played showing Mahatma Gandhi and his ‘Teen Bandar’ explaining the use and
importance of these in one’s life.
Next, some cultural programs were organized like Group
dance, Solo Kathak Dance etc. the aim was to give
exposure and set out the stage fear from the students to build a confidence
amongst them and to get them to the fore front of society and explaining its
importance in detail.
Few students prepared and delivered a speech on
Mahatma Gandhi and came out with their views on him. The final event was a
sketching competition for all the students. They were asked to make the face of
Bapu without using any erasers and making no cuttings
in a stipulated time of 15 minutes. Following students were the prize winners:
(a) Vicky,
Class III
(b) Zahid, Class I
(c) Mony, Class III
During the complete event
the complete administration was looked after by the trust and at no point of
time there was a major dearth of anything which could have hampered the
effective functioning of the event. The activities were regularly monitored and
emphasized by the local print media also the event was properly covered by a
local news channel “365 Din” on 3rd October properly. This support
surely supported and motivated the participants as well as the volunteers. On
the whole the event had a satisfactory success in all the spheres and has given
a jump start in the career of this organization.
14th Nov 2009 was
celebrated at 3DD school Chas, some stage events were organized and best
performing students were rewarded based on their academic and extra-curricular
activities performance.
This quarter observed the
busiest schedule as the number of mock tests increased and the participants
appeared more seriously. Almost 90% of the syllabus was covered for both the 11th
and 12th appearing students, but the 12th board appearing
students were given priority for the extra classes and such preparation. A
number of mock test software and CDs were procured; many sample papers were
prepared and collected for the board exam preparations of the coming 12th
board exams.
During this period Mr Sajal Chakraborty
proposed to extend such facility to Mc Cluskieganj where a strong need for facilities was felt in
his views and suggested to grow by making a permanent base at that place.as per
his suggestions and guidance the place was surveyed and found that the need of
education at those areas are very much restricted despite having a strone potential in the students and also in the place to
be grown as a educational hub and it will be a boon if the trust steps into the
place for its purpose. Support from Brig Somen Brahma
(retd) who had just hanged his uniform, Mr Dipak Rana
an eminent personality in extending, facilitating & setting up different
educational institutes in the general area Mc Cluskieganj, Mr Hari Oraon Prof Ranchi University
and Capt Indrajeet Singh (retd) came forward with all kinds physical, ideological and
financial support to promote the education, suggesting and finally deciding to
start and run an intermediate college in Mc Cluskieganj and also to grow a similar set up like project Dhyey at Mc Cluskieganj.
Many locations were seen but finally Capt Indrajeet offered his property at Vill
Konka to be used for the purpose.
The teachers in the meantime
had finished their syllabus for the students and had started the revision
classes/ doubt clarification classes. The centre was kept open even in the odd
hours for the students to make them use the internet and the library for their
preparations. 2 more batches were formed and the personality development
classes for them was conducted with the help of Mr
Ronnie Sanyal an IIM Calcutta graduate and a visiting
faculty in the ICFAI Ranchi, these students could not cleared their SSB
interview but they picked up various other avenues and performing well and
growing in their present profession.
3.4
Quarter 4- (Jan 2010 – Mar 2010)
January 2010 started with
the mock test series for the 12th board 2010 examinations and a
regular visit to Mc Cluskieganj
and the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) for learning the policies and the
procedure for opening an inter college.
At Ranchi and Chas center
preparations for the academic sessions were on. A series of Mock Tests for the 12th
appearing students were organized for the schools in Ranchi, and the
participation was not restricted to our students only but it was advertised in
all near around schools and in newspapers for all such students. A series of 03
mock tests were organized in the same fashion the board examinations were to be
held; the sample questions of the CBSE and other questions/ sample papers were
downloaded and the questions were distributed to the students for a mock test
under the close guidance of the counselors. Apart from this all the students
were given extra sample question sets for their preparation. During the no
class sessions also the classes for the weak students continued and doubt
clarification classes for other students were also carried out. The tests
conducted were followed by immediate clarification- the answering technique and
patterns were briefed by respective faculties.
The classes for the 11th students were running
only for the late joinee (in the Dhyey
2012 appearing classes) and the absentees and also those who wished to attend.
On 6th Jan 2010 the raising Day of the trust was
celebrated as we had finished complete 1 year of forming by offering prayers
and re-promising our mission.
On 26th Jan 2010 the republic day was celebrated
at the Chas Centre by the flag hoisting by the Trust’s secretary, he also
motivated the students by briefing them about the importance of this event.
Whilst the Ranchi centre was controlled by the staffs/
volunteers the Chairman was busy for the procedure of opening the inter
college, where it was found out that an NGO registered as a charitable trust is
given no weightage but only a society registered under the Society registration
act 1860 is accepted for opening and running the intermediate college only as
per the JAC parameters. So a new effort for forming the Gurusharan Education Society
started by the present trustees and the other volunteers who had already started
to extend their full fledged support to the cause.
The Dhyey project in the meantime
in Feb and March was run only for the library and the library and the faculties
were present in the requested time for all support to the appearing students.
The centre was now used by many non member students also and it was kept open
in the office hours only.
